The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) solidified their partnership on Tuesday, with an agreement to work collaboratively in drawing both public and private sector investments to invigorate Cambodia’s tourism sector. This collaboration will be channeled through the Cambodian Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board (CTB), aiming to rejuvenate the industry that has faced setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic among other challenges.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Phnom Penh, where Tassilo Brinzer, the Chairman of EuroCham Cambodia, led a delegation to meet with Sok Soken, the Cambodian Minister of Tourism. Minister Soken, who chaired the meeting, highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia’s (RGC) dedication to fortifying partnerships between the public and private sectors. This commitment is seen as crucial for the comprehensive development and support of the tourism sector.
Minister Soken discussed the need for significant reforms in the CTB’s role and operations to encourage broader participation from the private sector and to foster effective collaborations. These partnerships are viewed as essential for collectively enhancing Cambodia’s appeal as a tourist destination.
The Minister also unveiled the MoT’s new ‘BUILD plus 3Ds’ initiative. This strategic master plan is designed to transform Cambodia into a premier and captivating tourist destination.
In response, Tassilo Brinzer outlined EuroCham Cambodia’s core objectives, which include facilitating the entry of European and global businesses into Cambodia, particularly those investing in the tourism sector and other priority areas. Brinzer commended the CTB’s pivotal role and pledged support for the Ministry and other relevant bodies in addressing the tourism sector’s prevailing challenges.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to nurturing a close and productive collaboration aimed at advancing Cambodia’s tourism industry into a sector characterized by competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusivity.
The MoT’s ‘Uniting for a Collective Vision’ strategic initiative represents a comprehensive framework aimed at enhancing Cambodia’s global standing as a destination marked by immense diversity, abundant opportunities, and authentic hospitality. This initiative is structured to illustrate the interconnectedness of various strategic components, with the ‘BUILD plus 3Ds’ strategies forming the cornerstone of this architectural analogy, symbolizing the foundational elements required to achieve the overarching vision and goals for Cambodia’s tourism sector.
