Cambodia’s rubber export sector has experienced a notable boost in the first four months of 2025, with earnings up nearly 18% compared to the same period last year, driven by an increase in international rubber prices. From January to April 2025, the Kingdom earned almost $150 million from rubber exports, including rubber latex and rubberwood.
Increased Demand and Export Growth
The surge in export earnings comes amid a steady increase in demand for rubber latex, particularly from Cambodia’s expanding tyre manufacturing industry. Cambodia’s rubber export value reached $148.18 million from latex and $1.69 million from rubberwood during the first four months of 2025.
According to the General Directorate of Rubber under Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the Kingdom produced 81,962 tonnes of rubber latex from January to April. While this represents a slight decrease of 5.9% from the previous year, the rubber export volume saw a decline of 10.5%, with 76,467 tonnes exported compared to the same period in 2024.
April’s Strong Performance
Notably, Cambodia saw a significant increase in rubber latex production in April 2025. Output reached 17,882 tonnes, a remarkable 276% increase over March 2025, and a 10.1% rise over the same month in 2024. This surge in production indicates that Cambodia’s rubber industry is showing signs of recovery and adapting to both domestic and international market demands.
Rubber Prices on the Rise
The average price of rubber latex in April 2025 was $1,989 per tonne, reflecting a slight decrease of 4.71% from March, but a substantial 29.84% increase compared to April 2024, when prices averaged $1,532 per tonne. These rising prices are contributing to the overall growth of Cambodia’s rubber export revenues.
Ken Oudomonysinat, CEO of Sailun Tire Cambodia, a leading tyre manufacturer based in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ), noted that both domestic and international rubber prices have been on the rise for over a year. He also emphasized that Cambodia’s expanding tyre manufacturing sector is boosting domestic demand for rubber latex.
Rising Domestic Demand and Future Outlook
Cambodia’s rubber market is expected to continue growing, with an increasing number of tyre factories operating or under construction across the country. Currently, there are seven tyre factories in Cambodia, contributing to a steady rise in the demand for rubber latex. Oudomonysinat projects that Sailun Tire Cambodia alone will need approximately 100,000 tonnes of locally sourced rubber latex in 2025, with other factories requiring similar volumes.
Strong Performance in 2024
Looking back at 2024, Cambodia’s rubber export sector performed exceptionally well. The Kingdom exported $671.68 million worth of rubber latex and rubberwood products, a 36.48% increase compared to 2023. Rubber latex exports alone amounted to $666.25 million, with the remaining $5.4 million coming from rubberwood. The average international price for rubber latex in 2024 was $1,971 per tonne, a 47% increase from the previous year.
Expansion of Rubber Plantations
Cambodia’s rubber industry continues to grow, with rubber plantations covering 425,443 hectares by the end of 2024, a significant increase from 407,172 hectares in 2023. Of this total area, 77.63% was used for latex tapping, while 22.37% was dedicated to maintenance.
