On a crisp winter day in Davos, Switzerland, the stage was set for a significant diplomatic encounter as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, on Tuesday, January 16th. The meeting, which took place against the backdrop of the picturesque Swiss Alps, marked a pivotal moment in Cambodia’s efforts to enhance its economic cooperation on the global stage.

The meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Secretary General Cormann was not just a formality but a strategic endeavor to foster deeper economic ties and collaboration between Cambodia and the OECD, an organization renowned for its commitment to promoting economic growth and stability among its member countries.

During their discussions, both leaders acknowledged the significance of cooperation between Cambodia and the OECD in various sectors, including economics, education, and governance. Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for the OECD’s efforts in supporting Cambodia’s economic development initiatives and its commitment to assisting emerging economies in their quest for sustainable growth.

Secretary General Cormann reciprocated the sentiment by commending Cambodia for its continued commitment to economic reforms, social development, and its aspirations to enhance its position in the global economic arena. He reiterated the OECD’s dedication to providing expertise and knowledge-sharing opportunities to Cambodia, which can aid in achieving its development goals.

One of the focal points of the meeting was the discussion on Cambodia’s progress and challenges in achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the nation’s economic achievements, showcasing its resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles and fostering economic prosperity. He underscored Cambodia’s eagerness to work closely with the OECD in addressing the remaining challenges and maximizing the benefits of its collaboration with the organization.

In response, Secretary General Cormann expressed the OECD’s commitment to assisting Cambodia in navigating the complexities of economic development while ensuring that growth is inclusive and sustainable. He emphasized the importance of inclusive policies that consider all segments of society, especially vulnerable groups, and underscored the significance of good governance and education as key drivers of economic progress.

The meeting concluded with a shared vision for enhanced cooperation between Cambodia and the OECD, encompassing a wide array of areas, including trade, investment, education, and sustainable development. Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the existing partnership and exploring new avenues for collaboration that would mutually benefit Cambodia and the OECD member countries.

As the meeting concluded in the serene and picturesque setting of Davos, it left a lasting impression of Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to economic growth and development on the global stage. With the support and guidance of international organizations like the OECD, Cambodia is poised to achieve greater economic prosperity and ensure a brighter future for its citizens.
