The Honorary Consulate of Cambodia in Bangalore, in collaboration with Khmer Kitchen, recently hosted an extraordinary event titled “Khmer Konnection.” This gastronomical adventure, held from June 14 to 16, 2024, featured a trio of renowned Cambodian chefs—Kimsan Pol, Chhon B, and Srey Bora—bringing the rich and vibrant flavors of Cambodia to the fine-dining scene in Bangalore.
The event, which included dinner on the first two days and lunch on the final day, showcased a meticulously crafted six-course menu. Guests were treated to two amuse-bouche and a selection of three drinks, including perfectly paired wines and gin cocktails. The event drew a diverse crowd, including diplomats, media officials, esteemed patrons, and members of Rotary International, highlighting the cultural exchange and fostering people-to-people ties between India and Cambodia.
Spotlight on Culinary Maestros
Ms. Kimsan Pol, the Culinary Director of Embassy and Sombok, two prestigious Khmer gastronomy restaurants in Cambodia, spearheaded the event. As the President of the Cambodia Chefs Association (CCA), she is a trailblazer in the culinary world, recognized for her dedication to culinary excellence and innovation. Her numerous accolades, including the 50 Best Discovery and Secret Tables, speak volumes about her contributions to the global culinary landscape.
Chef Srey Bora, with two decades of experience, currently serves as the Executive Chef at Restaurant Collection Siem Reap. He also holds the position of Vice-President of the Cambodia Young Chef Association, where he mentors the next generation of culinary talent. His expertise and commitment to nurturing young chefs are unparalleled, making significant impacts on Cambodia’s culinary scene.
Chef Chhon Bunchhou, an esteemed culinary expert, has over a decade of experience working in prestigious establishments like Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeetra and Navutu Dreams Resort & Spa. As the Executive Chef at Golden Temple Group since 2017, Chef Chhon oversees the culinary operations of a hotel and restaurant in Siem Reap and manages an expanding portfolio of restaurants and pubs in Phnom Penh.
A Fusion of Cultures and Flavors
The Khmer Konnection event was more than just a culinary experience; it was a celebration of cultural diplomacy. On the first day, diplomatic officials from various countries graced the event, including representatives from Australia, Italy, France, and Israel. Esteemed patrons and media officials were also present, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
The second day witnessed the presence of diplomats, including His Excellency Mr. Alfonso Tagliaferri, Consul General of Italy, and Her Excellency Ms. Tammy Ben-Haim, Head of Mission of Israel in Bangalore. The third day saw members of Rotary International and patrons of Khmer Kitchen enjoying the exquisite Cambodian flavors.

Currently, direct flights are approved between New Delhi, India, and Siem Reap, Cambodia, marking a significant step towards closer bilateral relations.
