Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has called for comprehensive support to nurture outstanding students and expand scholarship opportunities across the nation, according to a statement released on 10 February 2026. The appeal was made during a meeting with high-achieving Grade A students at the OCIC event venue in Chroy Changvar, where the premier emphasised the importance of education as a pillar of national development.
Hun Manet highlighted the need for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to mobilise all possible resources to support talented students from preschool through upper secondary levels, with particular focus on students facing financial or learning challenges. He underscored that structured academic guidance can help gifted learners progress to leading higher education institutions abroad and become future leaders in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
In his remarks, the prime minister also urged institutions to systematically document and share effective study strategies used by successful students, enabling best practices to be disseminated more broadly within the education system. This initiative is expected to strengthen overall academic outcomes and enhance student competitiveness in regional and international academic competitions.
Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining and expanding scholarships for both gifted and disadvantaged students, with special emphasis on female students and those from low-income families. He stressed that investment in human capital is vital to equipping future generations with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to Cambodia’s socioeconomic development.
The prime minister further called for continuous improvements in school curricula — particularly in mathematics, science, technology, engineering, and foreign languages — to keep pace with rapid technological change and the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Hun Manet reiterated that education remains a top priority of the Royal Government, with efforts aligned to the Pentagonal Strategy spanning all stages of education. This strategy aims to ensure that every student acquires broad knowledge, practical and technical skills, strong moral values, and lifelong competencies that support personal livelihoods and national progress.
