Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has sent New Year greetings and best wishes to several key leaders in Vietnam and China, affirming continued diplomatic goodwill and reinforcing bilateral relations, according to an official statement released on 12 February 2026.
In a congratulatory letter to General Secretary To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Hun Sen extended warm wishes to “Your Excellency and the people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” on the occasion of the Vietnamese New Year, also known as Tết. He expressed confidence that the year would bring “renewed impetus” to strong ties between the two countries, their governments, political parties, and peoples — building on a long history of friendship and cooperation.
The Senate president also conveyed similar greetings to Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam; Tran Thanh Mẫn, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam; and members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, reflecting Cambodia’s commitment to reinforcing inter-parliamentary links and political coordination with Vietnam’s leadership.
In addition to the Vietnamese leadership, Hun Sen’s message was extended to Premier Li Qiang and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China, underscoring the strategic importance of Cambodia’s diplomatic relations with Beijing. The outreach to Chinese leaders aligns with ongoing cooperation across economic, infrastructure, and cultural sectors — including initiatives supported by both governments to strengthen regional connectivity and mutual development.
Hun Sen’s letters highlighted the spirit of traditional friendship, good neighbourliness, and comprehensive cooperation that underpin Cambodia’s relations with its regional partners. The messages also expressed hopes that the New Year would further reinforce stability, development, and prosperity across all areas of bilateral engagement.
These greetings from the Cambodian Senate President reflect sustained diplomatic efforts to maintain robust ties with key regional powers, particularly amid ongoing initiatives within ASEAN and larger international frameworks that foster political dialogue and economic collaboration.
