The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and close cooperation across various sectors, vowing to strengthen ties for the mutual benefit of both nations and peoples.
This renewed commitment was made during separate courtesy meetings held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Lao PDR, as well as with Lao Prime Minister H.E. Sonexay Siphandone.
Prime Minister Hun Manet led a high-level Cambodian delegation on a one-day official visit to Vientiane to pay respects to the late H.E. Gen. Khamtay Siphandone, former President of Lao PDR and former Chairman of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee. Gen. Khamtay, who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102, was the father of current Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
During the visit, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government, and the Cambodian people to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, his family, and the people of Laos. He honored H.E. Gen. Khamtay Siphandone as a national hero and respected statesman who devoted his life to the liberation, development, and prosperity of Lao PDR, and to fostering strong ties with Cambodia.
In response, the Lao President and Prime Minister expressed sincere gratitude for Cambodia’s show of solidarity and support during this time of mourning. They extended their thanks to the Cambodian leadership for the messages of sympathy and for the presence of the Cambodian delegation, which they regarded as a powerful symbol of the enduring friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
The visit underscored both countries’ commitment to continuing their close collaboration and further enhancing the historical bonds of friendship between their governments and peoples.
