26 May 2025, Kuala Lumpur – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
In a warm exchange, Prime Minister Hun Manet praised Malaysia’s smooth and well-organised hosting of the summit, expressing sincere gratitude for the hospitality extended to the Cambodian delegation. He also voiced Cambodia’s strong support for Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, noting that bilateral relations between the two countries have continued to make steady and meaningful progress.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, welcomed the presence of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet at the summit and acknowledged the strength of the growing partnership between Malaysia and Cambodia. He emphasised the importance of continued engagement at both political and technical levels to maintain momentum in bilateral relations.
The meeting also served as a platform for the two leaders to explore expanded cooperation in key strategic sectors. Both sides identified energy and the halal industry as priority areas for future collaboration. The leaders agreed to encourage their respective ministries and agencies to initiate and deepen technical discussions in these fields, aiming to create new avenues for mutual economic benefit and sustainable development.
The discussion underlined the shared vision of Cambodia and Malaysia in enhancing regional cooperation and contributing constructively to ASEAN’s collective goals. As both countries look ahead to Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship next year, the meeting reflected a spirit of mutual respect, partnership, and a shared commitment to regional peace, prosperity, and integration.
