Phnom Penh: On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2025, celebrated under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted Cambodia’s robust tourism performance and its role in driving inclusive growth and long-term development.
In his message, the Prime Minister revealed that from January to August 2025, the Kingdom welcomed over 4 million international visitors, while domestic tourism reached 17.28 million trips, marking a sharp 53 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
He also recalled that in 2024, Cambodia attracted 6.7 million international tourists, up 22.9 percent from 2023, alongside 22.52 million domestic trips, a growth of 20.1 percent. International tourism generated USD 3.64 billion in revenue, equal to 9.4 percent of GDP, and supported around 510,000 jobs.
Hun Manet stressed that the sustained growth of the tourism industry has become a solid foundation for Cambodia’s economic resilience. It not only contributes to macroeconomic stability but also creates jobs, supports local businesses, raises household incomes, and strengthens investor confidence.
He credited the country’s peace, political stability, and security as core factors behind Cambodia’s continued rise as a safe and attractive destination for both travelers and investors. Over the last three decades, tourism has consistently served as one of the key engines of national progress, linking culture, economy, and community development.
Looking forward, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that tourism will remain an economic priority. He underlined its importance in generating employment, boosting local income, expanding grassroots-level exports, and sustaining national growth, while also ensuring cultural preservation and the responsible protection of Cambodia’s environment and natural resources.
