Cambodia’s rice export sector recorded a major achievement in 2025, with total exports crossing 940,000 tonnes to international markets, according to data released by the Cambodia Rice Federation. This marks a strong year-on-year growth of over 45 percent compared to the previous year, highlighting rising global demand and improved export capacity.
A total of 68 Cambodian rice exporters shipped rice to 75 countries across multiple regions. These exports generated revenue of approximately USD 602 million, reflecting an increase of more than 22 percent compared to 2024. The performance reinforces the importance of rice as one of Cambodia’s key agricultural export commodities and a major contributor to foreign exchange earnings.
The European market remained the largest destination for Cambodian rice, accounting for more than one-third of the total export volume. China emerged as another major buyer, followed closely by ASEAN member countries. Other export destinations included countries in Africa, the Middle East, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, demonstrating Cambodia’s expanding reach in global rice trade.
Fragrant rice continued to dominate exports, making up nearly two-thirds of total shipments. Other varieties exported included long-grain white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice, catering to diverse consumer preferences across international markets. The strong demand for premium and specialty rice varieties contributed significantly to overall export value.
In addition to milled rice exports, Cambodia also recorded substantial earnings from paddy rice shipments. More than 6.8 million tonnes of paddy rice were exported during the year, generating revenue exceeding USD 1.5 billion. This further strengthened the agricultural sector’s role in supporting rural incomes and national economic stability.
Officials attributed the strong export performance to improved milling capacity, better coordination between public and private stakeholders, and consistent demand from overseas markets. The sector’s growth aligns with Cambodia’s long-term strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen its position in global food supply chains.
The record export volume underscores the continued resilience and competitiveness of Cambodia’s rice industry amid evolving global trade dynamics.
