On the occasion of the 47th anniversary of national salvation, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet lauded the efforts that brought peace, development, and unity to the nation, crediting the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the dedication of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the Armed Forces. Speaking in Tbong Khmum province, Hun Manet reflected on the pivotal implementation of the win-win policy that curtailed the civil war by the end of 1998 shaping today’s Cambodia.
In his address, Hun Manet also directed capital-provincial authorities to forward the development of Techo Santepheap Park and Techo Military Historical Site across the country. These initiatives aim to educate future generations by preserving historical facts and showcasing the significant milestones of Cambodia’s win-win politics. The government has earmarked numerous sites for these commemorations, emphasizing the importance of remembering and valuing the peace that was so hard to achieve.
Amidst the reflection on historical milestones, Hun Manet highlighted the importance of unity in maintaining the peace that many sacrificed their lives to achieve. He underscored the fragility of peace and the collective responsibility to protect it. Furthermore, he stressed the significance of remembering Cambodia’s struggle and collaboration with Vietnam, pointing out the mutual assistance in overcoming colonial rule and the genocidal regime of Khmer Rouge.
The premier did not miss emphasizing the liberation efforts post-January 1979 leading up to December 29, 1998, marking the end of civil unrest and the ushering in of a new era of peace and unity. These efforts, according to Hun Manet, are crucial historical facts that future generations must cherish.
Hun Manet’s remarks at the anniversary were a tribute to Cambodia’s past struggles and a call to action for its citizens to actively participate in preserving the hard-earned peace and development, ensuring a prosperous future for the coming generations.
