China’s Greater Bay Area Economic and Industrial Research Federation is expanding technical training cooperation with Cambodia. The initiative focuses on key sectors such as drone operations, automation, and vocational training. It aims to build a workforce ready for the digital economy.
A high-level meeting in Phnom Penh brought together Federation President Liang Songshou and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron. They discussed ways to improve technical education and prepare workers for emerging industries.
The Federation has set clear goals to address Cambodia’s skills gap. Plans include launching professional drone pilot training programs and forming partnerships between Cambodian vocational centres and China’s Shaanxi Polytechnic University. Local staff employed by Chinese enterprises will receive hands-on training. Vocational education frameworks will also be strengthened to meet market needs.
This effort builds on earlier China-Cambodia collaborations. Previous initiatives included joint curriculum development, faculty training, and practical internships. These projects aimed to improve skills and increase job opportunities.
The Greater Bay Area — covering Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao — is a major hub for innovation and technology. It hosts many tech firms and vocational institutions. These resources support cross-border knowledge sharing and skill development.
For Cambodia, the partnership is a key step in improving education quality. It also helps build a competitive workforce. Technical skills in automation and digital technology are vital for economic growth. By cooperating with the Greater Bay Area, Cambodia strengthens its human resources and supports long-term development.
