The National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) recently organized a seminar on “Diplomatic Crisis Management: Integrating Theory and Practice” on 26th March 2024. Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC), the seminar was attended by esteemed leaders of the ministry and heads of Cambodian missions abroad.
The primary objective of the seminar was to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of crisis management and to enhance their decision-making, communication, and leadership skills in critical situations. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical scenarios, the seminar aimed to equip Cambodian diplomats with the necessary expertise to effectively handle crisis situations.
During the session, His Excellency Dr. UN Kheang, Secretary of State, representing His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the vital role of Cambodian diplomats in promptly responding to crisis situations. Their swift action is crucial in safeguarding the interests of Cambodia and its people abroad.
The seminar offered a platform for participants to broaden their perspective on crisis management and to develop strategies to address various scenarios effectively. By enhancing their decision-making skills, diplomats will be better equipped to handle complex situations that may arise. Improved communication skills will enable effective coordination with relevant stakeholders, both within the ministry and outside, during times of crisis.
Leadership skills were also a crucial aspect of the seminar. Diplomats were provided with tools and insights to lead and guide their teams during critical situations. Effective leadership is essential in maintaining calm, providing direction, and making informed decisions in times of crisis.
