A new chapter in Cambodia’s aviation story has begun. Etihad Airways, the world-class carrier from the United Arab Emirates, has officially launched its first-ever direct flight between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh, with the inaugural landing taking place at Techo International Airport on October 4, 2025.
The arrival of this flight marks a historic milestone for Cambodia, bringing the Kingdom closer to the world and making travel between the Middle East and Southeast Asia faster, easier, and more convenient than ever before.
H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, led a delegation of senior officials, aviation authorities, and private sector representatives to warmly welcome the inaugural flight. “This is the pride of the Khmer nation. Cambodia is celebrating the first-ever direct flight in history by the world-class airline Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi,” said Minister Hak.
He further highlighted that this new route is not only a response to the growing number of international visitors but also a reflection of Cambodia’s rapid progress in the aviation sector. “This achievement demonstrates the tireless efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly under the realistic leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet,” he added.
According to Etihad Airways (Cambodia), the non-stop flight takes just over seven hours and will operate four times a week, offering smooth and reliable service between the two capitals. The inaugural flight carried 154 passengers, including 90 travelers departing from Phnom Penh to Abu Dhabi.
The launch of this direct route will significantly boost Cambodia’s tourism, business travel, and investment appeal. With Abu Dhabi serving as a global aviation hub, Cambodian passengers will now have easier access to over 100 destinations worldwide through Etihad’s network. Likewise, travelers from the Middle East, Europe, and Africa will find Cambodia’s attractions—from Angkor Wat to the beaches of Sihanoukville—more accessible than ever before.
Industry experts view Etihad’s entry as a strong endorsement of Cambodia’s growing reputation as a regional travel hub. The new Techo International Airport, built to meet world-class standards, stands as a symbol of this transformation—equipped to handle millions of passengers each year and support the nation’s long-term economic ambitions.
This milestone represents more than just a new flight—it’s a sign of Cambodia’s rising global connectivity, confidence, and potential. As Minister Hak stated, “This is the moment when Cambodia’s skies truly open to the world.”
