Kampong Cham province, one of Cambodia’s leading agricultural regions, has announced over 11,000 job openings and is calling on Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand to take advantage of the opportunity to work closer to home.
The announcement was made by H.E. Un Chanda, Governor of Kampong Cham, during an official ceremony on June 24, where he handed over 2,000 sets of combat uniforms to the provincial police force. The uniforms were donated by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and delivered through Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Aphi Santepundit Sar Sokha.
Governor Un Chanda emphasized that the vacancies are open to workers from all parts of the country, with particular encouragement extended to those recently returning from Thailand due to tightening labour conditions and border regulations. A special team has been mobilized in the province to guide job seekers and simplify the application and hiring process.
“These job openings represent an opportunity for our people to secure stable employment without having to leave the country,” said the Governor. “We especially welcome our returning migrant workers, many of whom left Cambodia seeking better livelihoods abroad. Now they have a chance to rebuild their lives here, close to their families.”
He noted that unskilled workers will receive a starting monthly wage of approximately US$250, while skilled workers may earn more depending on their experience and qualifications. The jobs span multiple sectors, including agro-processing, logistics, light manufacturing, and construction.
Kampong Cham province has seen increasing investment in its local economy, supported by improved infrastructure and government incentives aimed at job creation in rural areas. As part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to absorb returning migrants and reduce labour dependency on neighbouring countries, the provincial government is actively partnering with private sector employers to provide local employment options.
The Governor’s remarks come amid broader efforts by the Royal Government of Cambodia to reintegrate returning workers, many of whom faced uncertainty abroad during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and due to changing regional labour policies.
Local authorities hope that the combination of competitive wages and proximity to home will encourage workers to choose domestic opportunities over risky cross-border migration.
Job seekers in Kampong Cham or other provinces are encouraged to contact local labour offices or visit designated recruitment centres, where assistance teams are on hand to match applicants with suitable employers and facilitate job placements.
