The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) today organised a training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Public Innovation, marking an important step in Cambodia’s efforts to harness emerging technologies for governance and development.
The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of MISTI, and attended by around 400 of the ministry’s management and officials both in person and online.
According to MISTI, the training programme aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of AI concepts and practical applications, encourage a proactive mindset for applying AI in public services, and highlight the ethical frameworks required to ensure responsible adoption of the technology.
Speaking at the event, Minister Hem Vanndy underlined the balance between technological potential and human judgment in driving innovation.
“As AI grows ever more capable of handling repetitive tasks, analysing data, and extracting critical insights from big data, the indispensable role of human judgment remains clear—driving creativity, innovation, and strategic decision-making,” he said. “Therefore, the development and thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence must align with our priorities, capabilities, and values to ensure this technology serves people and strengthens our capacity to achieve meaningful progress.”
The programme reflects Cambodia’s wider strategy to embrace Industry 4.0 and digital transformation while ensuring technology is applied responsibly and inclusively. By building AI literacy among public sector officials, MISTI seeks to improve the efficiency of public services, strengthen innovation capacity, and position Cambodia to benefit from global technological shifts.
