Phnom Penh — At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet will lead a high-level delegation to attend the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), taking place in Nice, France from June 9 to 11, 2025.
Accompanied by the First Lady, Pich Chanmony, the Prime Minister will be joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, along with other senior ministers and government officials, according to an official statement released on Friday, June 6.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Action and Mobilizing Partnerships: Solutions for Ocean-Based Climate Action, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development,” the conference aims to catalyze transformative solutions for protecting the world’s oceans, a cornerstone of the global climate and biodiversity agenda.
During the General Debate, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet is scheduled to deliver Cambodia’s National Statement. His address will highlight the Kingdom’s vision and priorities in strengthening ocean governance, enhancing climate resilience, and advancing sustainable development. The Prime Minister will share Cambodia’s commitments and achievements in areas such as marine biodiversity preservation, responsible fisheries, and the promotion of blue economy initiatives.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water – Cambodia’s participation underscores its support for global cooperation in addressing ocean-related challenges, including marine pollution, overfishing, rising sea levels, and habitat degradation.
On the sidelines of the conference, Samdech Thipadei is expected to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and international partners to discuss shared concerns and expand Cambodia’s diplomatic and environmental collaborations.
The United Nations Ocean Conference is considered one of the most important global gatherings focused on ocean health and sustainability. This year’s session is particularly critical, as it comes amid growing calls for urgent climate action and more effective governance of marine ecosystems.
Cambodia’s presence at UNOC3 not only reaffirms its role as a responsible member of the international community but also reflects the Royal Government’s proactive stance in balancing economic development with environmental conservation.
