Pursat Province, Cambodia – August 10, 2025 – A significant milestone in Cambodia’s renewable energy landscape was marked with the official inauguration of a 10-megawatt solar power plant, equipped with an advanced energy storage battery system, developed by SchneiTec ZEALOUS. The ceremony was held at the project site in Sna Ansa commune, Krakor district, in Pursat province, and was attended by notable figures, including Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, Uneno Atsushi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Khoy Rida, governor of Pursat Province, and other distinguished stakeholders.
The inauguration highlighted Cambodia’s continued push for sustainable energy solutions and economic development. In his opening remarks, Governor Khoy Rida underscored the role of political stability and effective governance in making Pursat an attractive destination for investment. “Pursat is undergoing a remarkable transformation, evolving from a transit province to one brimming with industrial and tourism investment opportunities,” said the Governor, noting that the region has become a key hub for both solar and hydroelectric investments.
Minister Keo Rottanak reflected on the ongoing efforts by the seventh-mandate government to strengthen its economic partnerships with the private sector. “The government has implemented various policies to encourage foreign direct investment,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of this solar project in supporting Cambodia’s broader economic growth. The project, which is part of the country’s renewable energy strategy, will provide much-needed electricity to Cambodia’s national grid, boosting energy security and contributing to the nation’s carbon neutrality goals.
The energy storage component of the project is particularly significant, ensuring that electricity generated by the solar power plant is stored and distributed efficiently, even during non-sunny hours. This will provide a stable and reliable power supply, reinforcing the importance of clean energy in reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.
The project is a joint effort between SchneiTec ZEALOUS, a prominent energy player in Cambodia, and Chugoku Electric Power Company, one of Japan’s leading electric power firms. The collaboration brings international expertise and investment to Cambodia’s growing renewable energy sector.
Japanese Ambassador Uneno Atsushi also praised the initiative, stating, “This solar power and battery storage project will not only meet Cambodia’s growing electricity demands but will also play a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.” Ambassador Ueno highlighted Japan’s commitment to supporting sustainable development projects in Cambodia, underscoring the strong partnership between the two nations in addressing global climate challenges.
As Cambodia moves forward with its energy transition, the new solar plant in Pursat is a beacon of progress, reinforcing the government’s commitment to green energy, fostering international collaboration, and ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future for the country.
The successful completion of this project marks another step towards Cambodia’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality while positioning the nation as a leader in renewable energy in Southeast Asia.
