Sali Umet, a Cambodian jet skier, has taken it upon himself to bolster the sport in his home country. With a vision to nurture and train the younger generation of jet skiers, Umet is constructing a jet ski training centre in Kratie province, using his own funds earned from past competitions.
The facility, which is currently about 30% complete and aims to open before the 2025 SEA Games, covers more than 10 hectares of land and includes a jet ski training course. Umet plans to offer training not just to the national team but also to young Cambodians who aspire to become proficient in the sport.
Umet’s efforts to build the facility started several years ago, and his drive to fulfil his dream intensified while he was practicing in Thailand. Umet’s mission is to showcase his capabilities to his compatriots and leave a legacy behind by passing on his wealth of knowledge and techniques to future competitors.
Despite his successes in international competitions, Umet remains humble and grounded. He doesn’t rely on grants from anyone and only wants to help his fellow Cambodians succeed. His achievements in the jet skiing arena have earned him the respect of his supporters, including the owner of the Flamingo Club in Thailand.
Umet’s dedication to jet skiing in Cambodia is a shining example of what can be achieved with perseverance, hard work, and a deep love for one’s country. His vision of empowering younger generations through his passion for jet skiing is one that deserves admiration and support. We wish him all the best in his mission to bring Cambodian jet skiing to new heights!
