Mohammed Ismaeil A.Dahlwy, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Cambodia, based in Hanoi, emphasized the kingdom’s dedication to sustaining its humanitarian aid for Cambodia. This commitment aims at strengthening the diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations. The announcement was made during a press conference organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSHARC) at the Islamic Center of Phnom Penh (PPIC) on August 2, 2024. The purpose of the conference was to introduce a new voluntary medical program by KSHARC in Cambodia, which commenced on July 29, 2024.
The press conference was attended by notable figures including the ambassador himself and Senior Minister in charge of Special Missions, Osman Hassan, alongside medical professionals and representatives from various ministries and institutions.
Ambassador Dahlwy highlighted the ongoing commitment of Saudi Arabia to Cambodia through various humanitarian and development projects, which cumulatively amount to more than USD 6 million. He pointed out that the newly introduced voluntary medical program was an extension of these efforts, with a special focus on the sharing and transfer of medical knowledge and skills between Saudi and Cambodian professionals.
Furthermore, Ambassador Dahlwy expressed his confidence in the program’s positive influence on fostering a deeper humanitarian bond and facilitating people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
In response, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Osman Hassan expressed gratitude towards the Saudi government for its consistent support of the Cambodian populace, transcending barriers of nationality and religion. He shared his anticipation of continued humanitarian assistance from the Saudi government and its people.
In a significant move to bolster cooperation across various sectors, including diplomacy, education, sports, and trade, Saudi Arabia announced its plan to open an embassy in Cambodia within the year 2024. This strategic decision underscores the growing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Cambodia, manifesting a mutual interest in not only strengthening diplomatic relations but also in enhancing the welfare and development of their peoples through continued collaboration and support.
