Cambodia and Japan have announced a joint plan to transform the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional port and logistics hub. The initiative aims to strengthen Cambodia’s trade capacity and improve regional connectivity across Southeast Asia.
The plan was outlined during the first meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee, co-chaired by Cambodia’s Minister of Public Works and Transport and the Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia. Officials from key ministries, port authorities, and development agencies participated in the discussions.
A detailed master plan will be developed to guide the long-term expansion and modernization of the port. The focus will be on increasing cargo handling capacity, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing transport connectivity. These measures are intended to position Sihanoukville as a strategic maritime gateway for regional and international trade.
Japan will provide technical expertise and planning support as part of the cooperation. The collaboration is expected to support sustainable port operations and international standards.
