Phnom Penh — Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to speed up the implementation of high-level bilateral pacts following recent talks between senior officials from the two neighbouring countries, according to government sources. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across economic, security and development sectors.
Representatives from both governments met in Phnom Penh to review progress on key agreements signed in previous high-level visits. Officials outlined their commitment to accelerate joint activities linked to trade facilitation, border management, investment promotion and connectivity infrastructure — areas seen as central to deepening bilateral ties.
The two sides also discussed avenues to enhance cooperation in agriculture, tourism and human resource development. Cambodian authorities noted the importance of strengthening institutional coordination to ensure that joint programs are implemented efficiently and aligned with both nations’ development priorities.
Officials said that discussions included measures to streamline border procedures, improve customs cooperation and facilitate cross-border movement of goods and people, in line with agreements under the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Committee framework. Talks also touched upon mechanisms to attract investment from private sectors and expand trade flows between the two economies.
Vietnam and Cambodia share extensive land borders and have maintained longstanding diplomatic and economic relations. The acceleration of high-level agreements is expected to support regional integration efforts and contribute to broader development objectives under ASEAN cooperation frameworks. Both sides reaffirmed mutual respect for sovereignty, peaceful coexistence and enhanced people-to-people ties during the discussions.
Delegates emphasized that consistent implementation of bilateral pacts could improve business confidence, facilitate public-sector coordination and support infrastructure connectivity. Observers said that stronger bilateral cooperation aligns with efforts to bolster economic resilience and competitiveness in Southeast Asia’s dynamic regional landscape.
