Cambodia and South Korea have recently solidified their commitment to advancing the robotics industry through a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed between the General Department of Science, Technology & Innovation of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) during Cambodia’s National Day of Science, Technology & Innovation.

The collaboration aims to enhance cooperation in industry, science, technology, and innovation. KIRIA, a government-affiliated research institute, will drive advancements in robotics through research, development, and innovation.

The MoU outlines a strategic framework for collaborative efforts in various areas of mutual interest. These include the development of policies and strategies to advance robotics technology, the integration of industrial robotic technology in manufacturing enterprises and SMEs, and the promotion of technology transfer and research initiatives.

Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, Hem Vanndy, highlighted the agreement’s significance in supporting startups and enhancing their competitive edge. The partnership will provide guidance and support to transform innovative ideas into thriving businesses while upholding ethical standards and protecting intellectual property rights.

The collaboration also includes the organization of events such as trade missions, technology forums, and exhibitions to showcase robotic solutions. It will promote industrial and robotics standards, quality certification systems, and joint research and surveys on robotics, artificial intelligence, and automation trends.

The MoU will remain effective for five years from the signing date. Cambodia’s National Day of Science, Technology & Innovation has provided a platform for leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to celebrate the crucial role of science and technology in the country’s development journey. The event reaffirms Cambodia’s dedication to international collaboration in the field.

In addition to fostering collaboration with South Korea, Cambodia is working on legislation to promote technological growth, including a law on technology transfer and the establishment and management of STI Parks. These initiatives reflect Cambodia’s commitment to advancing its technological capabilities for economic growth and sustainability.
