Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), emphasized on Cambodia’s hard-earned peace that laid a strong foundation for socio-economic development and contributed significantly to the success of the democratic process. Speaking on Sunday morning (Jan. 7) at the 45th Anniversary of January 7 Victory Day at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh, he highlighted that the peace achieved served as a crucial step forward in Cambodia’s development.
Moreover, the implementation of the Win-win policy, which successfully ended centuries of wars, national divisions, and territorial disputes, is the reason behind achieving complete peace and national unity in the country since the end of 1998. This policy has become a crucial landmark in the history of Cambodia, and the success achieved because of it has enabled Cambodia to move forward with socio-economic development and become a democratic nation.
Cambodia had been through several wars and conflicts that left the country torn apart for years. The Khmer Rouge period had been the most devastating of all and resulted in the loss of countless lives. The country began its process of rebuilding after the war ended, but it was not an easy feat. It took years of struggle and hardships to stabilize the country politically and economically.
The success of the Win-win policy led to the disarmament and demobilization of 130,000 troops, which included Khmer Rouge fighters, Cambodian Government troops, and bandits. This policy ensured that former combatants reintegrated into their communities and pursued peaceful means of making a living. It also contributed to enhancing national unity and the development of the country’s economy.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen acknowledged that peace, national unity, and territorial integrity are the foremost factors that have led to Cambodia’s development. The country’s economic growth rate has been around 7% per year since 1998, leading to significant improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens. Further, he emphasized that democracy would remain a fundamental value in Cambodia, and the government would continually strive to strengthen its democracy.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the government to implement policies that promote national unity and development, Cambodia has achieved significant milestones in its socio-economic progress.
