Phnom Penh: Acting Head of State Hun Sen has proposed enhanced sports cooperation between Cambodia and Brazil, with a particular focus on football and volleyball. The proposal came during a courtesy call on Thursday (Sep. 25) at the Senate by Vivian Loss Sanmartin, Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia.
Samdech Techo highlighted Brazil’s reputation as a global sporting powerhouse, noting that the country’s strengths in football and volleyball could serve as a valuable resource for Cambodia’s athletic development. He suggested that Brazil consider dispatching professional coaches to train Cambodian athletes in these sports, describing the initiative as an important step to deepen friendship and people-to-people ties.
“When people talk about Brazil, they think of sports. I have long admired Brazilian football and volleyball,” Hun Sen said, adding that cooperation in this field would further strengthen bilateral relations.
In response, Ambassador Sanmartin affirmed that Brazil will consider sending coaches to Cambodia to provide training in football and volleyball, emphasizing that such cooperation could begin soon.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Hun Sen also extended, on behalf of His Majesty the King, a warm welcome to the ambassador. He expressed his satisfaction at the establishment of Brazil’s first embassy in Cambodia, calling it a significant step forward in expanding bilateral ties.
