The 2024 Cambodia-China Media Intelligent Communication Forum took place on Friday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, bringing together media professionals to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in the media sector.
Addressing approximately 150 participants at the half-day event, Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra emphasized the importance of the forum as a platform for media representatives from both nations to exchange insights on the rapid advancements in information and communication technology, particularly AI.
“As technology advances, artificial intelligence has enormous potential for the media,” Pheaktra stated. “Our goal is not only to adopt these new technologies but also to find ways to effectively utilize them to enhance the quality of reporting and the efficiency of media coverage.”
He highlighted the event as a reflection of the close cultural and informational ties between Cambodia and China, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. “We will work together to create a new chapter in the Cambodia-China media relationship, injecting fresh impetus into building a Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era,” Pheaktra said.
Chen Cong, minister-counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, recognized the significant role media has played in fostering China-Cambodia relations and facilitating cultural exchange.
“The media outlets of our two countries have always been active participants and strong supporters of the friendly cooperation between our nations,” Chen remarked. He noted the transformative impact of AI on various aspects of society, including politics, economics, and social development, while emphasizing its potential to revolutionize the media industry.
Cooperation in AI, Chen added, presents promising opportunities for the media sectors in both countries.
The forum was jointly organized by Cambodia’s Ministry of Information and the Asian and African Languages Programming Center of China Media Group, further cementing the collaborative ties between the two nations in the field of media and communication.
