(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, has reiterated Cambodia’s steadfast commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Nations, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The reaffirmation was made during his meeting with UN Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York.
During the discussion, H.E. Prak Sokhonn emphasized Cambodia’s trust in the UN’s role in promoting multilateralism, a rules-based international order, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and international law. He also underlined Cambodia’s ongoing commitment to contribute to UN peacekeeping operations, humanitarian efforts, and global initiatives to address the impacts of climate change.
For his part, Secretary-General Guterres expressed appreciation for the excellent partnership between the UN and Cambodia. He commended Cambodia’s role as a troop-contributing country and its active involvement in trilateral training cooperation. He also lauded Cambodia’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and highlighted its constructive engagement in multilateral processes.
