Phnom Penh – Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have reaffirmed their strong and growing partnership, with both nations commending the steady progress of their bilateral relations—particularly in the joint fight against cross-border crimes such as online scams.
The renewed commitment was underscored during a courtesy meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Ms. Kim Jina, 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, held this morning at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
Vice Minister Kim Jina noted that law enforcement agencies from both countries have successfully collaborated on numerous investigations, though many have not been publicized. She explained that her visit aims to enhance public understanding by sharing accurate information on these joint efforts while further strengthening cooperation in addressing transnational crimes, including cyber and online scams.
Expressing her appreciation, Ms. Kim thanked the Cambodian government for its consistent and effective collaboration, which has led to tangible outcomes. She reiterated the RoK’s commitment to continue deepening this partnership across all relevant sectors.
Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the close and productive relationship between Cambodia and South Korea, emphasizing that their strategic partnership—established during his official visit to Seoul in 2024—has laid a strong foundation for deeper cooperation. He highlighted that both governments remain actively engaged in curbing cross-border criminal activities and reaffirmed Cambodia’s dedication to maintaining joint efforts to combat online scams and other illicit operations.
The leaders also discussed future directions for expanding bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their shared goal of promoting safety, stability, and stronger people-to-people ties between the two nations.
According to official data, Cambodia has so far arrested and deported 180 Korean nationals involved in cybercrime operations, while more than 60 others are awaiting deportation to the Republic of Korea in the near future.
