Cambodia has taken a significant step toward enhancing its industrial competitiveness and export readiness after Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation H.E. Hem Vanndy met with H.E. Luo Wen, Minister of the State Administration for Market Regulation of China, in Beijing on November 17. The high-level meeting aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation on metrology, quality infrastructure, and conformity assessment under the Memorandum of Understanding signed during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Cambodia on April 17, 2025.
During the discussions, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Cambodia’s national metrology system by upgrading measurement and testing equipment, improving calibration and traceability standards, and expanding expert training programs for Cambodian specialists. The cooperation also covers food safety supervision, standardisation, and strengthening mechanisms for conformity assessment—critical areas for improving the accuracy, reliability, and global acceptance of Cambodian products.
As part of the visit, Minister Hem Vanndy held bilateral consultations with the National Institute of Metrology of China (NIM) and toured its cutting-edge laboratory facilities to explore deeper technical collaboration. In a notable gesture of support, NIM provided three advanced pieces of metrology equipment to strengthen the capacity of the Cambodian National Metrology Centre.
Officials noted that this enhanced cooperation will support the mutual recognition of conformity assessment results between Cambodia and international partners. Improved measurement reliability and internationally accepted certificates will help reduce technical barriers to trade, ensure higher product safety, and increase the export competitiveness of Cambodian SMEs and manufacturing industries.
With global markets demanding greater precision, transparency, and compliance, the Cambodia–China partnership on metrology marks a strategic milestone in elevating Cambodia’s industrial standards and strengthening its position in regional and global value chains.
