`Cambodia Strengthens Railway Infrastructure with New Framework Agreement

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Royal Railway PLC have signed a Framework Agreement (FA) to enhance Cambodia’s railway infrastructure, ensuring sustainable and efficient transport solutions.

The agreement was formalized on February 13 in Phnom Penh, with H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, representing the Royal Government of Cambodia, and Neak Oknha Kith Meng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Royal Railway PLC, signing the accord.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior ministry officials, members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Railway Concession Agreement Negotiations, representatives from Royal Railway PLC, and other relevant technical officers.

H.E. Peng Ponea emphasized the significance of this milestone in strengthening Cambodia’s railway network, highlighting the government’s commitment to sustainable and efficient transport development. He underlined that land transport, including railways, plays a vital role in national connectivity and economic growth.

“The signing of this framework agreement is a major achievement for Cambodia’s railway sector and aligns with the Royal Government’s policy to enhance railway transport and logistics,” said the minister.

This agreement underscores Cambodia’s dedication to improving railway connectivity as part of broader efforts to boost economic development.

As part of its long-term infrastructure vision, the Royal Government of Cambodia introduced the ‘Comprehensive Intermodal Transport and Logistics System Master Plan 2023-2033’ last year. This ambitious ten-year initiative seeks an investment of USD 36.67 billion to develop 174 projects aimed at transforming Cambodia’s transport and logistics sector.

Royal Railway reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality railway services that contribute to the nation’s progress.
