H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Financial Policy, led a meeting on February 13 to review the draft “Framework for the Development and Management of River Ports in Cambodia.” The meeting took place at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and was attended by senior officials from various relevant ministries and institutions.
The proposed framework aims to support the implementation of the Law on Water Transport as well as the “Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033,” as outlined in a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This comprehensive framework is intended to serve as a detailed roadmap, guiding ministries and institutions in developing and investing in Cambodia’s river transport sector. By focusing on upgrading infrastructure, improving port service efficiency through modern technology, and reducing logistics costs, the framework seeks to enhance Cambodia’s water transport system. These improvements are expected to drive the country’s long-term economic growth while increasing its regional and global competitiveness.
In addition to reviewing the framework’s contents, the meeting emphasized the importance of ensuring clarity and coherence in the document. The working group was tasked with reviewing the terminology used in certain sections to enhance its precision and effectiveness.
The framework marks a significant step in Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen its transport infrastructure and logistics system, which will play a pivotal role in boosting the country’s economy.
