Phnom Penh – Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, announced that more than 700 Cambodian students who recently returned from Thailand have been awarded scholarships to continue their studies in Cambodia under the initiative of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
The minister made the statement during a press conference on Friday, highlighting the government’s swift action to support students affected by recent border tensions. Following armed clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops, nearly one million Cambodian workers returned home, among them more than 700 students who had been pursuing their studies in Thailand.
“Under the high recommendation of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the ministry has arranged the Samdech Techo Scholarship for these more than 700 students so that they can pursue their studies at Cambodian institutions,” Dr. Hang Chuon Naron underscored.
He further explained that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has already prepared the necessary enrollment procedures to integrate these students into Cambodian universities and institutes without disrupting their academic paths. In addition, he noted that students who still wish to continue their education abroad will be able to apply for international scholarships facilitated by the ministry.
The government’s initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that Cambodian students are not left behind during times of crisis and that the country’s young generation continues to receive opportunities for higher education, both domestically and internationally.
