The President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Hun Sen, has officially conveyed his congratulations to Paetongtarn Shinawatra following her appointment as the Prime Minister of Thailand. In a letter of commendation, Hun Sen expressed his delight and well wishes towards Shinawatra, who has recently taken office as Thailand’s 31st Prime Minister and notably the second woman to ever hold the position.

The letter, which was made public on August 16, 2024, highlighted Hun Sen’s personal and the CPP’s collective commendation for Shinawatra, underlying her significant achievements and dedication to public service. As the leader of the Pheu Thai Party (PTP), Shinawatra is recognized for her longstanding commitment to guiding Thailand towards a pathway of prosperity and inclusivity, overcoming diverse challenges along the way.

Hun Sen’s letter further emphasized the enhanced level of cooperation that has developed between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly following the recent establishment of a strategic partnership agreement in February 2024. This agreement marks a milestone in the two countries’ relations, opening up new avenues for collaboration across various sectors including trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges, in addition to addressing regional issues.

The Cambodian leader expressed an eagerness to continue building on these strong bilateral ties between Cambodia and Thailand. Hun Sen looks forward to working closely with Shinawatra and her administration to further the shared goals and interests of both nations.

Hun Sen’s letter closed with warm wishes for Shinawatra’s health, happiness, and success in her new and important role, stressing his utmost respect and highest consideration for the office she has assumed.

This gesture of goodwill from Cambodia towards Thailand underlines the importance of maintaining and expanding diplomatic and cooperative relations in the Southeast Asian region, serving not only the interests of their respective nations but also contributing to broader regional stability and prosperity.
