H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), has called on water operators across Cambodia to strengthen their capacity, ensure regulatory compliance, and expand service coverage to achieve 100% nationwide access by 2030.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Training Course on Non-Revenue Water Management on February 18, 2025, the Minister highlighted the critical importance of reducing non-revenue water to lower operational costs and ensure long-term water supply sustainability. The event gathered directors from Capital-Provincial Departments of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (DISTI), members of the Cambodia Water Supply Association, and private sector operators.
Minister Vanndy outlined several reform initiatives spearheaded by MISTI, including enhancing the capacity of capital-provincial departments to conduct inspections and monitor compliance, promoting investment in bulk water supply by large and medium-sized operators, and mobilizing financial resources to support infrastructure development. These measures are designed to improve water quality and ensure adherence to licensing conditions.
To accelerate progress, the Royal Government of Cambodia has recently committed funding for the expansion of water supply infrastructure in key provinces, including Kampot, Svay Rieng, Kampong Thom, Mondulkiri, and Pursat. These investments aim to strengthen water networks and enhance access to clean water for communities nationwide.
