In a groundbreaking collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Huawei introduced the first-ever National Tourism Photography Contest, empowered by Huawei X-MAGE technology. The competition, which commenced in May 2023 and is set to conclude on April 10, 2024, carries the theme “Visit Siem Reap 2024”. This initiative aims to digitally highlight Cambodia’s touristic allure, capitalizing on novel technologies to draw the attention of travelers from around the globe.
The contest has seen significant endorsements and participation from key figures within the tourism and technology sectors. Dignitaries such as Mean Essarayoss, Advisor and a crucial member of the Minister’s Cabinet at the Ministry of Tourism, Lang Solina, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, and Nancy Zhang, Chief Communication Officer of Huawei Cambodia, were present at the event. They were joined by a host of enthusiastic contestants.
With nearly 400 entrants since the competition’s kickoff, the initiative has received commendable attention and appraisal not only from attendees but also from esteemed leaders. Prime Minister Hun Manet and Minister of Tourism Sok Soken have recognized the stunning imagery. These photographs were also showcased at the prominent Siem Reap River Festival, spotlighting the talent of the participants. To this point, 30 contestants have made it to the competition’s finals, all geared towards promoting the “Visit Siem Reap 2024” tourism campaign.
The competition’s concluding phase challenged finalists to capture the essence of Cambodia through three photographic categories: Food, Culture, and Transportation, predominantly within Phnom Penh. This unique focus is designed to inspire potential visitors to explore the myriad experiences Siem Reap has to offer.
Adhering to the contest rules, participants submitted their entries before the deadline, setting the stage for the judging panel from the Ministry of Tourism to commence their evaluation. The exciting anticipation builds towards the announcement of the top three winners on the final day of the contest.
Nancy Zhang expressed her enthusiasm and satisfaction with the collaborative efforts that have propelled the contest from its inception through to its concluding stages. Representing Huawei, she shared her hopes that this innovative competition would significantly heighten the visibility of Cambodia’s touristic destinations. Through leveraging cutting-edge technology, the contest aims to simplify access to the latest destination information, thus inviting a wider and more diverse audience to experience Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and landscapes.
