In a significant development for Cambodian connectivity, Metfone, under Viettel Cambodia, has successfully extended its mobile network to cover 98% of the country’s populace. This milestone was revealed during the 15th-anniversary celebration of Metfone’s services, dubbed ‘The Met’s Sonata,’ which highlighted the company’s widespread impact across Cambodia. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries such as Tea Seiha, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, alongside Nguyen Huy Tang, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, and Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group.

The ceremony, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel & Residence, was not just a celebration of Metfone’s 15-year legacy but also a reflection of the profound contributions it has made to Cambodia’s socio-economic landscape. Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha lauded Viettel Group for its pivotal role in enhancing Cambodia’s telecommunications infrastructure and expressed optimism for a continued prosperous partnership between the Cambodian government and Viettel Group.

Tea Seiha emphasized the transformative effect of Metfone’s services on the Cambodian society, stating, “Metfone has played a crucial role in disseminating telecommunications services and information technology across the country, significantly improving the lives of our citizens.”

The company’s contributions extend beyond network expansion, with a financial impact exceeding $1 billion in contributions to the Cambodian government, positioning Metfone among the top five tax-paying enterprises in the country, with a leading stance in the telecommunications sector. Furthermore, Metfone’s commitment to social welfare and community support is evident in its $120 million investment in various social activities and initiatives.

The theme ‘The Met’s Sonata’ was chosen to symbolize Metfone’s enduring commitment to fostering valuable contributions to Cambodia’s people and its overall development. Since its inception on February 19, 2009, Metfone has adhered to a strategic approach of prioritizing infrastructure development to ensure widespread access to telecommunication services, even in the most remote areas of Cambodia.

The anniversary event also served as an occasion to honor individuals and groups within Viettel Group and Metfone with four Royal Monisaraphon Medals, acknowledging their significant contributions to Cambodia’s development. This gesture underscored the collaborative efforts and achievements in advancing the nation’s telecommunications landscape.
