On September 17, the #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign will take place in Kratie.

WHAT IS  #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC CAMPAIGN AND WHY DO WE FOCUS ON IT?

Plastic disturbs our endocrine system, never biodegrades, and is believed to be the root cause of many diseases, including cancer and infertility. The #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign aims to spread knowledge and solutions. Your participation and innovative contributions are what keep the campaign going.

Organisers encourage others to support sustainability by publicly sharing photos, articles of the campaign and other creative and motivational photographs in social media feeds. #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC is the hashtag meant to bring the community together. This will set an example for others around us and have an impact on them.

In order to prevent using single-use plastics both now and in the future, set a challenge for yourself on social media. Also, share a post of your practice on social media to spread the word, #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC

The #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign has been planned over 6 months, with a clean-up operation in a different city each time. After Kep on July 31 and Siem Reap on August 27, it will take place in Kratie on September 17, Phnom Penh on October 22, Battambang on November 15, and will end on December 8, 2022, in the capital, at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, under the RUPP Free Plastics event, where Tos Yerng will launch their music video called Re-Five.

WHO AND WHEN IT STARTED?

All Dreams Cambodia and Tos Yerng launched the #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign in July 2022 to combat plastic pollution in Cambodia and promote the kingdom as a sustainable and appealing tourist destination.

This campaign was born from the meeting of Jacques Guichandut, Managing Director of All Dreams Cambodia, a socially and environmentally responsible travel agency, and Tos Yerng, a musical group formed by Monika Virak and Honging Thorng, two artists who composed and performed a dynamic song promoting the 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Remind.

SUCCESS STORIES

55 participants, including volunteers, media professionals, and representatives of partner organizations, collected 1,200 kg of waste on July 31 in Kep.

On August 27, more than 300 people participated in the clean-up campaign in Siem Reap, including 70 tourism and hospitality companies, environmental NGOs, social enterprises, and even tourists. Waste weighing 1,500 kg was collected.

NEXT WHEN and WHERE?

On September 17, the #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign will be held in Kratie. Start preparing for it with your family and friends! Let’s make an attempt to reduce the use of plastic in Cambodia.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Everyone is encouraged to take part in social media outreach and the #ONESTEPNOPLASTIC campaign at Kraitie.

H.E Samheng Boros, Minister attached to the Prime Minister, Royal Government of Cambodia and Chairman of National Social Assistance Fund Board (NSAF) and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) addressing the participants in SiemReap.

WHY?

Since plastic doesn’t biodegrade, every product ever made out of plastic is immortal! Massive amounts of disposable plastic pose a tremendous risk to our health and that of the next generation, but if we work together and act quickly now, we can make a significant difference.

One of the most serious issues we as a species deal with is plastic waste. Plastics made from petroleum contaminate our food, water, and air, which are essential for survival. To show the world that we don’t need to rely on disposable plastics, the One Step No Plastic campaign was launched.

Organizations that take part in the campaign actively.

Participate in the campaign knowing that you are setting a positive example for others.

#ONESTEPNOPLASTIC team appreciate your support in this.  Show the world what sustainable living looks like by setting an example.
