Open Gateway Ignites New Business Opportunities in the AI-Infused Mobile Marketplace

by TBC

The dawn of a revolutionary shift in the telecommunications sector was highlighted on June 26, 2024, during the prestigious Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai. A distinguished gathering labeled “Accelerating Open Gateway in the Era of 5G-Advanced and AI Summit” brought together a cadre of industry influencers including network operators, CPaaS agents, and consulting bodies. A primary focus of intense discussion was the pivotal role of open application programmable interfaces (APIs) in driving a transformative impact on the telecom industry amidst the rollout of 5th-generation advanced (5G-A) networks coupled with the proliferation of artificial intelligence capabilities.

Philip Song, Huawei Carrier Business Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, delineated the criticality of the Open Gateway initiative for network operators keen on crafting operations driven by high-caliber customer experiences powered by the multifacitious network abilities that 5G-A promises in this AI-infused wireless landscape. Song also laid out Huawei’s strategic blueprints and pragmatic steps pivoting around open APIs.

An auspicious convergence of 5G-A commercial activations aligned with leaps in artificial intelligence heralds a fresh chapter in mobile AI during 2024. Song projected substantial shifts poised to redefine mobile devices, the generation of content, and modalities of user engagement. Such transformations demand 5G-A networks to offer a panoply of capabilities aligned with these new demands. AI’s integration into these networks is poised to fulfill these burgeoning needs. The 5G-A telecom foundation has been configured to bolster network intelligence, enabling on-demand provision of tailored capabilities.

The Open Gateway model stipulates a set of uniform standards, billing modalities, and a cohesive, interoperable ecosystem. This model is designed to spearhead operations fueled by a diverse spectrum of network functionalities. Strategies crafted on these principles utilize both native carrier platforms and extant third-party operations systems, thereby optimizing monetization avenues through the stratification of users, tiers of service, and market segments. Through these avenues, Open Gateway is set to catalyze the development of groundbreaking business strategies within the domain of 5G-A.

Rapid progression characterizes the Open Gateway movement, underscored by Huawei’s disclosure of an array of open API applications, crafted in synergy with network operator partners. Notable innovations include a tantalizing array of services such as an appointments API tailored for both consumer and business-oriented mobile live-streaming experiences — facilitating personalized and assured quality. Moreover, a cutting-edge ‘New Calling’ API amalgamates high-definition video, realtime data interchange, content collaboration, and augmented reality annotations to revamp insurance procedures, truncating elaborate two-hour assessments into a brisk ten-minute operation.

In partnership with GSMA Open Gateway, Huawei is unwavering in its commitment to advancing the research and development of network APIs. By delving into untapped service domains, fostering existing offerings such as fixed wireless access (FWA), and refining operational management efficiency, Huawei aims to enable enhanced network resource orchestration, assured experiential quality, and heightened operational intelligence. Collaboration with the CAMARA assembly is a critical step for Huawei in aiding global carriers to iteratively conceive and institute novel service APIs.

With a call for amplified international collaboration and the affirmative adoption of open network functionalities, Song’s parting message at the summit underlined Huawei’s tenacious resolve in supporting carriers to leverage 5G-A networks amplified by AI, thus forging new commercial ventures, end-user experiences, and contributing to a smarter global landscape.

The MWC Shanghai 2024 event, spanning from June 26 to June 28, showcased Huawei’s premier innovations at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. In a year that anticipates the overarching launch of 5.5G alongside the advancement of F5.5G characterized by gigabit optical networks, the intersection of network technology, cloud computing, and AI ushers in a tapestry of enriched user experiences and pervasive intelligently-driven applications. Industry stewards and visionaries congregate to delve into avenues amplifying the triumph of 5G moving into the 5.5G epoch, exploring growth potentials for operator revenues, and hurtling towards an interconnected terrain of intelligence.
