Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 23 – The dedication of the outgoing Sri Lankan Ambassador to Cambodia, Colonne Appuhamillage Chaminda Inoka Colonne, was recognized by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet for her influential role in fostering stronger ties between Cambodia and Sri Lanka during her term. The commendation took place as part of a farewell visit to the Peace Palace on July 22, 2023.
At this farewell gathering, Ambassador Colonne updated Samdech Thipadei on her concerted efforts and the strides made in enhancing and widening the scope of the two nations’ collaborative ventures, specifically in economic, trade, tourism sectors, and in establishing visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
Although Ambassador Colonne’s tenure in Cambodia has reached completion, she affirmed her commitment to continue promoting the potential of Cambodia to the people of Sri Lanka, advocating for further engagement and exploration by Sri Lankan businesses and tourists.
In his interactions, Samdech Thipadei praised Ambassador Colonne for her proactive and influential role in not just maintaining but also augmenting the diplomatic connections and collaborative actions between Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
The Cambodian Prime Minister pointed out that several sectors, including economy, trade, culture, and tourism, hold vast potential for deepening and widening the cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that the existing opportunities could lead to substantial joint advancements that benefit both nations.
Adding to his observations, Samdech Thipadei mentioned the readiness of the relevant ministries and governmental institutions in Cambodia to engage in close collaboration with the newly appointed Sri Lankan Ambassador. The aim is to ensure a smooth transition and to continue building on the strong foundation laid by Ambassador Colonne.
The dialogue underscored a mutual appreciation for the progress achieved and a firm resolve to perpetuate the growth and strengthening of bilateral relations moving forward. Future collaborations, rooted in mutual respect and shared goals, are poised to open new avenues for prosperity and understanding between the two Asian nations.
