In a significant development, a state-of-the-art cross-docking and cold storage facility was inaugurated at the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) in Kandal province. This inauguration marks a significant milestone in enhancing cold storage standards and boosting container throughput, signaling positive implications for Cambodia’s logistics and port services. Let’s delve into the details of this groundbreaking initiative and its far-reaching impact.

The Grand Inauguration

The inauguration ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and ambassadors from the UK, Australia, the US, and Sweden. Representatives from the US Embassy were also in attendance, underscoring the international collaboration involved in this transformative project.

A Collaborative Endeavor

The cross-docking and cold storage facility is the result of a joint initiative between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), InfraCo Asia, and the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port. This project has received invaluable support from the Development Fund and USAID, with contributions from the UK, Australia, Switzerland, Netherlands, and the US. Such international cooperation highlights the global significance of Cambodia’s logistics and port sector.

Khmer Cold Chain: The Operating Force

Operated under the banner of Khmer Cold Chain, this cutting-edge facility is strategically situated within the LM17 container terminal area of the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port in Kien Svay district, Kandal province. The facility boasts an impressive storage capacity of 5,827 cubic meters, maintaining temperatures ranging from a frigid -22°C to a comfortable 15°C.

A Catalyst for Growth

Minister Peng Ponea emphasized the facility’s pivotal role in fulfilling the Ministry’s priority plan to strengthen and promote Cambodia’s logistics and port sector. Furthermore, it is poised to bring about reform by enhancing competitiveness, ensuring faster, more transparent, and efficient logistics services.

He stated, “This cold storage facility will complement the function of the LM17 container terminal, which will enable the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port to increase the volume of containers passing through, providing cold storage services that meet international standards.”

These initiatives and accomplishments align seamlessly with the government’s vision, particularly within the framework of the Ministry’s Political and Strategic Program. The development of logistics and ports in Cambodia is strategically aligned with the country’s overarching development goals.

The inauguration of the cold storage facility at PPAP is a remarkable stride forward for Cambodia’s logistics and port services. With international cooperation and advanced infrastructure, Cambodia is poised to enhance its position in the global logistics landscape. This facility not only elevates cold storage standards but also opens doors for increased container throughput, promoting efficiency, and transparency—a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to progress and innovation in the field of logistics and port services.
