Tokyo, Japan — Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch has called on Japan to continue its crucial support for Cambodia’s humanitarian mine action initiatives, describing it as essential to “sustaining hope” for the Cambodian people.
The appeal came during a courtesy meeting and working discussion between H.E. Ly Thuch, who also serves as First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), and H.E. AISAWA Ichiro, Member of the House of Representatives of Japan, held at the National Diet Building in Tokyo on Friday afternoon.
Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, H.E. Ly Thuch expressed deep appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their longstanding friendship and continued support, which he said have played a significant role in Cambodia’s peacebuilding and socio-economic progress. He particularly highlighted Japanese investments as a vital source of employment and economic growth for Cambodians.
The Senior Minister underscored Japan’s pivotal contribution to Cambodia’s mine action success and reiterated his call for continued collaboration in humanitarian mine clearance operations. He also noted that a growing number of Cambodian students are pursuing higher education in Japan, contributing to the nation’s human capital development.
During the meeting, H.E. Ly Thuch extended an official invitation to H.E. AISAWA Ichiro and members of the Okayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry to visit Cambodia. He said such a visit would allow Japanese parliamentarians and business leaders to better understand Cambodia’s investment potential and explore future cooperation.
In response, H.E. AISAWA Ichiro praised Cambodia’s remarkable progress and reaffirmed Japan’s long-term commitment to its partnership with the Kingdom. He acknowledged Cambodia’s confidence in Japan’s education system and pledged to welcome more Cambodian students, including government officials, for academic and professional training.
He further expressed his intention to visit Cambodia soon, accompanied by representatives of the Okayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen bilateral ties.
