On February 6, 2024, a significant diplomatic dialogue unfolded at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marking another milestone in the strengthening relationship between Cambodia and Brunei. His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, welcomed His Excellency Pengiran Kasmirhan Bin Pengiran Haji Tahir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Kingdom of Cambodia, for a courteous and meaningful exchange.

This meeting was not merely a formality but a continuation of the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations. Both dignitaries fondly revisited the successful State Visit of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah to Cambodia in 2022, a visit that significantly contributed to the solid bilateral ties. They also reflected on the productive discussions that took place between the Prime Minister of Cambodia and His Majesty the Sultan during the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta in September 2023, which further solidified their mutual commitments.

The conversation between His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea and His Excellency Pengiran Kasmirhan Bin Pengiran Haji Tahir was forward-looking, with a strong commitment to expanding the scope of bilateral relations. They expressed a shared eagerness to promote cooperation in various sectors, notably in trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, and culture. Such collaborative efforts are poised to unlock new opportunities and pave the way for shared prosperity and development.

Moreover, the meeting emphasized the importance of mutual support in regional and international arenas, reflecting the nations’ shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia. This alignment in foreign policy underscores the strategic partnership between Cambodia and Brunei, highlighting their role as collaborative partners in the ASEAN community and beyond.

The diplomatic engagement between the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and the Ambassador of Brunei serves as a reaffirmation of the strong ties that bind the two nations. It underscores the mutual respect and common goals that drive their partnership, setting a positive example of international diplomacy and cooperation.

As Cambodia and Brunei continue to work together, the strengthened relations are expected to bring about significant benefits to the wider ASEAN region. The collaborative nature of this partnership serves as evidence of the lasting friendship and unity that defines the connection between these two sovereign countries.
