Diplomatic relations and the enhancement of collaborative efforts took center stage during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on May 29, 2024. During the engagement, Secretary of State Chum Sounry acknowledged the progress made in several domains. Areas of advancement include the steady ascension of high-level exchanges, a robust increase in bilateral trade, and a noticeable surge in the establishment of US businesses within Cambodian territory. Moreover, both nations have forged an admirable synergy in cultural exchanges as well as conservation efforts concerning cultural heritage and antiquities.
Chum Sounry also lauded the exceptional collaboration regarding the POW/MIA initiative, where Cambodia has gained recognition as an outstanding cooperative partner. Furthermore, the realms of health, education, repatriation, and tourism have similarly benefited from an enhanced level of cooperative efforts, demonstrating strong ties and fruitful endeavors between the two nations. In this regional forum, Cambodia is poised to take on an instrumental role as the coordinator for the ASEAN-US dialogue relations, a responsibility they will shoulder for a three-year duration from 2024 to 2027, inaugurating this key function in July.
