Cambodia has taken a bold and forward-looking step toward its digital future. Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth announced that 5G services will officially begin rolling out in Phnom Penh and five provinces starting in 2026, marking one of the country’s most significant technology upgrades in recent years.
The announcement was made on 6 December 2025 at the Cambodia Internet Governance Forum, where the Minister expressed confidence that the country is ready for the next chapter of digital transformation. His excitement was shared by telecom operators, who have already prepared detailed investment plans to ensure that Cambodians enjoy fast, stable, and world-class mobile network services.
According to Minister Vandeth, operators will build around 500 antenna towers per year, per operator, over the next three years. This rollout is expected to reach 2,000 towers, is designed to create seamless connectivity between 4G and 5G networks, strengthening nationwide access and improving service quality for millions of users.
The momentum for this transition accelerated on 5 December 2025, when the Ministry officially launched Cambodia’s 5G mobile service operations under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth. The launch symbolised more than a technological upgrade—it reflected the government’s determination to position Cambodia at the heart of Southeast Asia’s digital growth.
How 5G Will Benefit Cambodia
The introduction of 5G is expected to touch nearly every sector of society. Beyond faster internet, it opens doors to new possibilities that were once out of reach.

Industries like fintech, e-commerce, transport, and manufacturing will see efficiency gains and new innovation opportunities.
Digital public services including e-Health, e-Education, and e-Government platforms will become faster and more accessible to citizens across the country.
And at a national level, 5G is expected to strengthen Cambodia’s competitiveness, attract fresh investment, create new jobs, and raise the country’s profile in regional and global markets.
