Phnom Penh, Nov. 9, 2025 — Cambodia’s fragrant variety Malys Angkor has been named the World’s Best Rice 2025 at The Rice Trader (TRT) World Rice Conference held in Phnom Penh from November 7 to 9.
This marks the seventh time Cambodian rice has won the international title, following victories in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2024 — reaffirming the Kingdom’s global reputation for premium-quality rice.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the achievement reflects the “hard work of Cambodian farmers who continue to produce world-class rice that meets the highest international standards.”
Boost to Cambodia’s Global Rice Brand
The World Rice Conference is a leading annual event that gathers global stakeholders from the rice industry, including producers, traders, exporters, and policy leaders. Cambodia’s repeat success at the platform enhances the visibility of its national rice brand and strengthens buyer confidence in international markets.
The Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) reported that the Kingdom exported 596,341 tonnes of milled rice during the first nine months of 2025 — a 33.7 percent increase compared with 445,913 tonnes in the same period last year. These exports generated USD 408 million in revenue, up 21 percent from USD 335 million in 2024.
Additionally, Cambodia earned USD 1.209 billion from border-traded paddy rice, totaling 5.24 million tonnes between January and September 2025.
Strengthening Agricultural Competitiveness
The recognition of Malys Angkor as the World’s Best Rice further reinforces Cambodia’s position as a major rice-exporting country in Southeast Asia. The award supports ongoing government efforts to promote agricultural productivity, expand export markets, and ensure sustainable growth for the country’s farmers and agribusinesses.
