In a significant stride towards enhancing public welfare and healthcare standards, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced pivotal measures that span from offering free transportation to maintaining rigorous recruitment standards for medical professionals. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to fostering a supportive community environment while ensuring the provision of high-quality healthcare services.
In light of the forthcoming Pchum Ben Festival, a time-honored celebration of ancestor veneration, the Prime Minister disclosed that the Phnom Penh Capital Administration will provide 56 buses at no charge to facilitate the travel of citizens to northeastern provinces such as Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakkiri, and Mondulkiri. This transportation initiative is set to alleviate the financial burden on individuals journeying home to commemorate this period from September 30 to October 4. Alongside this, an additional provision of 500 public buses has been announced to further assist citizens in traveling to other provinces during the festival slated to occur from September 18 to October 3, 2024.
Parallel to these efforts, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the imperative of upholding high standards within the healthcare sector. At the Calmette Hospital’s groundbreaking ceremony for new buildings, he highlighted the critical need for the recruitment of adept medical professionals. Advocating against any dilution of medical training criteria, the Prime Minister insists on stringent standards to recruit specialists skilled in both technical and ethical practices.
