by TBC

As a celebration of the 65-year-long diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Indonesia, the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia hosted a two-day Indonesian Health Festival in Sihanoukville from June 8 to June 9, 2024. Collaborators on this initiative included the Provincial Government of Sihanoukville, the Cambodian Ministry of Health, and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, uniting forces to bolster health cooperation and endorse healthy lifestyles among their citizens.

The festival was inaugurated by Kuoch Chamroeun, the Governor of Sihanoukville, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto. The event’s vision was to highlight and develop the burgeoning sector of health-related collaboration between the nations.

Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto shared insights on the multifaceted relationship in the health sector between the two countries. He noted the steady expansion of trade in health products, including a wide array of herbal remedies. Furthermore, the ambassador spotlighted the untapped potential in digital health initiatives, human resource development, the construction of medical infrastructure, and inter-hospital partnerships.

“The Indonesian Health Festival serves as an excellent venue to foster increased interaction, communication, and networking among the health industry stakeholders of both countries,” Ambassador Darmosumarto elucidated. He put forth that the festival aimed to display the numerous avenues for cooperation, particularly in enriching human resources within the health sphere through varied initiatives such as specialized training programs, scholarship provisions, and the sharing of health trends and expertise.

To complement the event, attendees were treated to an exhibition featuring a diverse range of health products and medicinal offerings. Additionally, the festival programmed a series of informative talk shows, delivering valuable information regarding nutritious diets, the significance of maintaining mental health, and preventive measures for infectious and degenerative diseases prevalent among the Indonesian community in Cambodia, particularly within Sihanoukville.

A highlight of the festival included the provision of complimentary basic medical check-ups across the duration of the event, ensuring attendees not only received information but also tangible health benefits. This initiative reflected a commitment to health promotion and disease prevention within the community.

In essence, by strengthening health connections through events such as the Indonesian Health Festival, Cambodia and Indonesia continue to lay the groundwork for an enduring partnership. This collaboration signifies a joint effort to enhance health and wellness, while cultivating educational exchanges and medical advancements that promise to elevate the quality of life for their citizens.
