Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet believes that science, technology, and innovation are indispensable to the development of the digital socio-economy. In his opening speech at the 2nd National Day of Science, Technology and Innovation at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday (Mar. 24), he urged that cutting-edge technologies be incorporated into the production chain and other public services to increase productivity in sync with global standards, stressing that these technologies are paramount for development.
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation for organizing the event and hosting several vital programs, including the Technology and Equipment Manufacturing Exhibition, Science Fair, Technology Forum, and the Outstanding Cambodian Scientist Award.
Prime Minister Hun Manet believes that the day’s events demonstrated the potential of science, technology, and innovation and testified to the Royal Government’s determination to promote and support small and medium-sized enterprises that can benefit from these crucial pillars while building an innovative national ecosystem.
Moreover, the Prime Minister asserted that education, training, research institutions, and the private sector, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises, must work alongside government ministries and institutions to lay a robust foundation for the science, technology and innovation ecosystem across all sectors. He also urges ongoing collaboration across these sectors, an approach that will help fulfill Cambodia’s potential.
The Prime Minister also placed heavy emphasis on bolstering technical and institutional expertise through the support and guidance of the National Research Council, which has established physical and technological clusters designed to enable and support scientific research and excellence across the country.
At the same time, Prime Minister Hun Manet charged relevant ministries and institutions with the responsibility of collectively supporting the leadership and coordination set out by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation. He underlined the need to strengthen all sectors dealing with science, technology and innovation, especially in promoting sustainable development.
Prime Minister Hun Manet flagged the importance of making science, technology, and innovation accessible to all and ensuring that their benefits translate to every sector of Cambodian society. He emphasized the need to combine experience and expertise to promote science, technology, and innovation, thus unlocking its full potential across the country.
The Prime Minister’s call for a collective approach in developing science, technology and innovation underscores the scale of the advantages that Cambodia can secure by embracing cutting-edge, innovative approaches to technological development and implementation. The promotion of these pillars at the national level has to be seen as integral to safeguarding Cambodia’s sovereignty, security, and progress.
