A new high-speed boat service connecting Koh Rong Island with Kampot International Tourist Port has officially launched, offering faster travel between some of Cambodia’s most popular coastal destinations. The service will operate routes linking Koh Rong, Koh Rong Sanloem, and Kampot, improving accessibility for both domestic and international tourists.
The service is operated by GTVC Speedboat, a company involved in Cambodia’s maritime tourism sector. The route is expected to shorten travel time between Kampot and the islands, making it easier for visitors to combine multiple destinations in a single trip.
Officials note that improved transportation links are a key part of Cambodia’s broader strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure.
Improved Access to Key Tourism Destinations
Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem are among Cambodia’s most visited island destinations, known for their beaches and outdoor activities. Kampot, located along the southern coastline, is also a growing tourist hub recognised for its riverside attractions and access to nearby natural landscapes.
The new speedboat connection allows travellers to move more easily between these destinations, supporting tourism activities such as island tours, eco-tourism experiences, and adventure travel. Improved connectivity may also encourage longer stays and multi-destination travel within the region.
Tourism operators expect the service to benefit local businesses, including hotels, tour agencies, and hospitality providers.
Supporting Cambodia’s Tourism Infrastructure
Transportation improvements play a significant role in tourism development. The Kampot International Tourist Port was developed to enhance maritime travel and support connections between Cambodia’s coastal cities and nearby islands.
The new route is part of broader efforts to strengthen Cambodia’s coastal tourism network and promote the region as a destination for nature-based and adventure tourism.
Real Estate and Economic Impact
Improved connectivity between coastal destinations can influence tourism-driven real estate development. Increased visitor numbers may lead to higher demand for resorts, boutique hotels, waterfront properties, and mixed-use hospitality developments in areas such as Kampot and the surrounding islands.
Infrastructure upgrades, including port facilities and marine transport services, can also attract investment in tourism-related commercial projects. In the long term, better transport links between coastal locations may contribute to broader economic activity and regional development.
