“Under Cambodian Skies: A Three-Man Exhibition” brings to the forefront the unique visions and artistic journeys of three accomplished individuals – Im Seila, Hom Rith, and Art Foo. This exhibition is a highly anticipated event that shines a spotlight on the diverse expressions and insights into Cambodian culture and landscapes.

Art Foo, a revered figure in art education from Singapore, left his teaching career to explore Cambodia firsthand. This immersion into new surroundings began in 2014 and has greatly influenced his artistry, culminating in the release of his book, “Under Cambodian Skies.” Within its pages, Foo chronicles his encounters and reflections of the region, portraying everything from bustling market scenes to tranquil countryside settings. His works, primarily using oils and acrylics, bring out the vibrancy and soul of Cambodian vistas.

Hom Rith, another featured artist, has cultivated his artistic voice against the backdrop of his hometown’s pagoda walls in Kampot province. The entirely self-taught artist shot to recognition after his debuting solo exhibit at the prestigious Raffles Hotel Le Royal in 2022. Rith’s work, characterized by bold strokes and emotive color palettes, attempts to capture the essence of Cambodian daily life and its rich cultural heritage, thus offering viewers a deeply personal view of his early environment and current inspirations.

Im Seila’s journey into the art world extends his role beyond that of an artist to a mentor of children with special needs. A graduate from the Yamada School of Fine Art, Seila was recognized at the 2022 National Watercolor Festival, where he won the first prize. His contributions to the exhibition involve intricate watercolor pieces that beautifully narrate the day-to-day activities of the Cambodian populace, providing a window into the more intimate moments of life in Cambodia.

The exhibition held at the prestigious Roseous Phnom Penh Art Gallery, from June 1 to August 15, 2024, features a remarkable collection of 62 pieces. Each artwork offers a gateway into the heart of Cambodia as interpreted through different mediums—watercolors render fluidity and a sense of immediacy, while oils and acrylics offer depth and texture.

Attendees at “Under Cambodian Skies” are promised more than just visual indulgence. They are invited into the personal voyages of its artists, witnessing their creative responses to the vibrant land of Cambodia. The event is a unique occasion for art lovers and cultural enthusiasts to connect with contemporary artistic expressions that are deeply rooted in the experiences and everyday life of Cambodian society.
